The strategy seeks to achieve capital growth over the longer term by investing in high-quality companies across the market capitalization spectrum that have significant exposure to China and Hong Kong, offer good earnings growth potential, and trade at reasonable valuations. Manulife’s extensive presence in the region enables the team to access invaluable local insight, which allows them to pursue investment opportunities through a proven, consistent investment framework.

Philosophy

The team believes that Chinese equity markets are largely inefficient. The team seeks to capitalize on these inefficiencies and generate competitive investment returns by investing in companies with attractive growth outlooks, recognized catalysts, and inexpensive valuations relative to their growth rates.

Kai-Kong oversees the firm’s Greater China equity desk and works with investment specialists across Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan to lead management of the firm’s Greater China portfolios and strategies. Prior to joining the firm in 2011, he gained a wealth of experience in Greater China equities through positions at Reliance Asset Management, Standard Life Investments (Asia), Pioneer Investments, and CMG First State. Kai-Kong holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Winson Fong, CFA

Senior Portfolio Manager, Greater China Equity

Winson specializes in Hong Kong and China equities, contributing to the management of the Hong Kong and Greater China equity portfolios. His more than three decades of investment experience in Asian equities has included managing mutual fund products and institutional mandates such as pension and sovereign wealth funds. Prior to joining Manulife Investment Management in 2014, he held positions at Nikko Asset Management, Société Générale Asset Management, Yamaichi Capital Management, China Universal Asset Management, and Lion Global Investors. Winson holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
